Jessica Pegula vs Jasmine Paolini is the first match of the day. While these two have played six previous matches, Paolini has won only one. Pegula had dominated this match until this year’s Billie Jean King Cup, when Paolini finally won. Oddly enough, none of their matches have ever gone to a third set. Pegula lost her last match to Aryna Sabalenka, but she did beat Coco Gauff in her opening match here. That had to soften the sting of losing to Gauff in the finals of WTA Wuhan right before this tournament. Paolini is on a three-match losing streak and hasn’t even won a set here in Riyadh.
