Taylor Fritz has a concerning problem which has now lasted for almost three years .

For all his success elsewhere on the ATP Tour, Taylor Fritz has struggled at the Masters 1000 level for several years now.

When the American won Indian Wells in 2022, many expected him to push on and win more Masters titles, but he has yet to return to another final.

While he has made deep runs at Grand Slams, reaching the final of the US Open last year and making the semis of Wimbledon in 2025, similar results haven’t materialised at the Masters 1000 tournaments.

When Fritz lost to Alexander Bublik in Paris, he finished another disappointing Masters 1000 campaign.

If he doesn’t address his relatively poor performances at the second-tier tournaments, then Fritz will struggle to overtake any of the players ranked above him on the ATP Tour…

Taylor Fritz needs to start performing at Masters 1000s if he wants to be a top-three player
The world number four has never broken into the top three, and is unlikely to do so unless he starts finding form at the Masters 1000s.

Every year, 9,000 points are available at the Masters 1000 level, but in 2025, Fritz picked up just 1,230.

He has only reached five Masters 1000 semifinals since winning Indian Wells in 2022, a poor record for someone of his calibre.

During the same period, the players ranked above him, Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz, have all reached at least 10 Masters 1000 semifinals.

Masters 1000 semifinals since Indian Wells 2022
Carlos Alcaraz – 11
Jannik Sinner – 11
Alexander Zverev – 10
Taylor Fritz – 5
Reaching the last four of a Masters 1000 event guarantees you 400 points, something Zverev, Sinner, and Alcaraz have done regularly.

Had Fritz been able to find the same consistency as his biggest rivals, then perhaps he wouldn’t be trailing them by such a considerable margin in the world rankings.

While Fritz deserves credit for maintaining his top-five status, there’s clearly work to be done if he wants to move forward.
