Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa are all set to miss the National Bank Open in Montreal owing to fatigue and injury, respectively. While Sabalenka confirmed to rest before the US Open next month, Badosa is yet to recover from the injury she sustained at Wimbledon. Their absence will allow Caty McNally and Moyuka Uchijima to bag the main draw.
The 27-year-old made her decision in a statement released by Tennis Canada. The star player said that she had to give herself a chance to win the US Open by staying fit for a good amount of time. Citing fatigue following the Wimbledon season, Sabalenka opted to skip the Montreal Tournament and claimed she would miss the fans.
I’m looking forward to kicking off the North American hard-court swing, but to give myself the best chance for success this season, I’ve decided it’s in my best interest to skip Montreal. I’ll miss my amazing Canadian fans, but I’m already looking forward to seeing you all next year. Thanks for your understanding and support, it means the world to me,” Sabalenka said.

Likewise, Paula Badosa, who suffered an injury and retired from her match at Wimbledon, will also not feature in the National Bank Open, as she is yet to fully recover from her injury. Hence, two familiar faces will not feature in the upcoming Hard Court tournament.
That allows other players to get a chance in the main draw. Caty McNally and Moyuka Uchijima, who are next to the duo in the draw, are likely to get promoted to the main round without having to take part in the qualifiers. Eugenie Bouchard will be playing her final tournament in Canada before saying goodbye to the sport.
