Mirra Andreeva has just achieved something in women’s tennis for the first time in over 20 years

Mirra Andreeva earned her best finish at Wimbledon this year, reaching the quarter-finals at the All England Club.

Following an impressive run at the championships, where she displayed some of the best grass-court tennis of her career, Andreeva ultimately bowed out to Belinda Bencic.

The Russian has now made the quarter-finals at two Grand Slam events this year, after her last-eight appearance at Roland Garros earlier in June.

With the conclusion of Wimbledon, Andreeva‘s ranking has improved once again, and she has now made history on the tour.

At just 18 years old, Andreeva has officially made her top-five debut in the world rankings, rising from number seven.

She becomes the youngest woman to break into the top five since former WTA number one Maria Sharapova in 2004.

Sharapova claimed the top spot in the rankings the year after she cracked the top five, something Andreeva will hope to emulate.

Andreeva didn’t drop a set en route to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, sweeping aside Mayar Sherif and Lucia Bronzetti in the opening two rounds.

She then earned back-to-back wins over Americans, beating Hailey Baptiste and 10th seed Emma Navarro.
