Jack Draper confirms what his relationship with Andy Murray is now like.

Jack Draper’s return to tennis is imminent after the British number one was ruled out of the US Open through injury.

Despite only playing 11 tournaments in 2025 due to an injury-riddled season, Jack Draper will end the year inside the ATP Tour top 10.

The Brit’s breakout year saw him win his first ATP 1000 event at Indian Wells, and reach the finals in Qatar and Madrid.

The star has long been dubbed the natural successor to Andy Murray’s British crown and many expected him to lift a Grand Slam in his career.

As the two leading lights of British tennis, across two generations, Draper and Murray share a mutual bond.

Speaking to The Tennis Podcast, Draper said of Murray: “He is someone who I can always talk to, who I can always turn to.”

The Brit revealed that he doesn’t often speak to the three-time Grand Slam champion, but they are on good terms away from the court.

“My brother works with him, he’s an agent, at IMG. He is in contact with my brother and I sometimes ask how he’s doing and vice versa.

“The answer is that he is playing golf five hours a day! Actually I really want to get my golf up to scratch after my arm so I can go and do something with him, because with Andy, you have to compete against him to really enjoy that situation, or maybe not enjoy it!

“But it’s one of those. It’s that person on your phone where you will send him a random message or he’ll send you a random message abusing each other or just getting under each other’s skin about something.

“He is that sort of character, he is like a big brother who is a friend but also is someone I am not really in touch with loads. We just pick up where we left off.”

Draper will return to tennis at the UTS Grand Finals, where he has received a wild card for the tournament he famously lifted in 2023.

The star has also confirmed several other tournaments before the Australian Open, including the Macau Tennis Masters and the United Cup alongside Emma Raducanu.

Murray and Draper’s tennis careers only overlapped briefly, with the Scot’s career drawing to a close as the rising star was arriving on the scene.

The British pair only played each other once on the ATP Tour, and it came on one of tennis’ biggest stages.

Draper and Murray met in the round of 16 of Indian Wells in 2023, which saw the younger star pick up the win against his mentor.

The straightforward straight sets victory at the American Masters tournament can be seen as a passing of the baton moment especially in retrospect, given the subsequent trajectories of their careers.

Draper’s tournament ended in the next round at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz, after the Brit was forced to retire through injury.

Alcaraz would proceed to the final of the tournament, where he would defeat Daniil Medvedev in the final for his third ATP 1000 tournament.
