Maria Sharapova shared a touching tribute remembering legendary architect Frank Gehry and their special collaboration.

Maria Sharapova honored the legendary architect Frank Gehry with a moving tribute.

Renowned for creating spectacular masterpieces such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and for his unconventional and innovative design, he was one of the most celebrated architects of his time.

The Canadian-American visionary passed away at the age of 96 at his Santa Monica home.

His chief of staff, Meaghan Lloyd, confirmed the sad news, revealing that he died after a brief battle with a respiratory illness.

On Saturday, the tennis icon took to social media to express her admiration and gratitude for having the opportunity to meet such an incredible legend.

In her Instagram Stories, she shared a tribute post from Architectural Digest along with a touching message honoring his legacy.

“Thank you for your brilliance, Frank. And wicked sense of humor. Greatly missed but never forgotten,” she captioned.

Another post also featured a black-and-white photo of them during her visit to his studio and recalled “daydreaming of becoming an architect.”

The 38-year-old former tennis player also recalled their collaboration for her 2009 US Open.

“The earrings. Frank’s version of a lightning,” she added, along with a black and white photo of her during the competition.

Gehry teamed up with Tiffany & Co. to design a stunning accessory as part of the “Tiffany for Maria Sharapova” collection.

The distinctive design called “Stria” featured a double-drop look in sterling silver and set with diamonds.

The sculptural and fluid look was also a nod to the late designer’s architectural style.

The former Russian player, who is also a big fan of architecture and the brand, showed her excitement to wear them at the matchup.

“The earrings have a distinctive shape that is like the fluid lines of Frank Gehry’s architecture. I am thrilled to wear these elegant earrings at the US Open,” she said, as mentioned in a press statement.’

As for the architecture icon, he explained the vision behind his design, noting that he wanted it to be visually striking and at the same time practical for an athlete to wear.

“I wanted to design earrings for Maria that were interesting yet light enough to wear during play,” he said. “It was a new idea inspired by corrugations, like a river or a waterfall.”

As the world remembers the award-winning architect, Sharapova’s heartfelt tribute reminds everyone of his artistry.
