Kim Clijsters married the former American basketball player Brian Lynch in 2007, whom she described as having little to no connection with tennis. Brian Lynch has been a successful professional basketball player until he retired in 2009. He is now serving as a coach. In a recent podcast interview, Clijsters further revealed how refreshing it was for her to meet someone outside her realm of sports.
She said, “So for me to then all of a sudden meet an American in my hometown in Belgium, that has about 10,000 people who had no clue who I was, didn’t really follow tennis as the only person he knew was Anna Kournikova. So, yeah, so it was very refreshing to me.”
Her husband’s lack of connection with tennis helped them cultivate a relationship that was not entirely based on their careers. In previous interviews, she revealed the immense amount of support she has received from her husband and how it has encouraged her to flourish in her career.
