After finally emerging in Brisbane today from her self-imposed “house arrest” followng her memorable Australian Open victory, Ash Barty has revealed wedding plans are on the cards as part of what has already become a “whirlwind” year.
Sky News contributor Erin Molan says she was so happy to hear a young, Indigenous Australian athlete in Ash Barty state how proud she was to be an Aussie in a time where it feels you should be “ashamed” for it. The world number one tennis champion said she was “so proud to be an Aussie” after receiving her maiden Australian Open Grand Slam title on Saturday. “I couldn’t believe that I was hearing it,” Ms Molan told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “I was so happy to hear that because it almost feels like you should be ashamed to be proud to be Australian. “She’s such a great role model, she’s such a superhero.”
