Novak Djokovic mirrors Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, extends Canada Masters hiatus

As expected, Novak Djokovic will not travel to Toronto next week. The Serb is enjoying a break following his semi-final run at Wimbledon, spending time with his family in Montenegro and Croatia.

The organizers of the Canada Masters have experienced numerous setbacks, with Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Draper also missing the sixth Masters 1000 event of the season.

Novak is 37-7 in Toronto and Montreal, lifting four trophies but skipping the prestigious event in every season following an early loss in 2018 to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic will recharge batteries in the upcoming weeks and likely travel to Cincinnati, his final test ahead of the US Open. The 24-time Major winner will try to shine in New York and extend his streak on the most notable scene in 2025.

The 38-year-old has collected three Major semi-finals this season, stopping the clock and following Jannik Sinner on that feat. Novak is the third-strongest link on Tour this year, embracing deep runs at Majors and fighting for the Miami Open crown

The Serb celebrated his 100th ATP title in Geneva ahead of Roland Garros, becoming the third player in the Open era to achieve that after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.

Djokovic then hit the last four in Paris, becoming the oldest Roland Garros semi-finalist since 1968! The legend stopped the clock at Wimbledon and notched the record-breaking 14th semi-final.

Novak defeated Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-final but experienced a fall in the closing stages of the duel. The veteran struggled with his movement against Jannik Sinner in a battle for the final.

The Italian dominated the opening two sets before the Serb bounced back in the third set. Novak led 3-0 and had a break point in the fourth game that could have sent him further in front.

However, Jannik erased the deficit and sealed the deal in straight sets, becoming the first player since 2017 to defeat Djokovic before the final at Wimbledon. The Serb felt good about his All England Club campaign, wishing for more in Cincinnati and New York.
