Álex de Miñaur has a Spanish mother and a Uruguayan father, but he feels as Australian as anyone. He’s said it on several occasions, and he reaffirmed it eloquently in the lead-up to the United Cup 2026, when asked about his feelings playing as a local in Sydney. “I think about the countless hours I spent training here as a child, how I dreamed of competing on these courts someday. It’s a unique moment every time I play here, it gives me goosebumps,” asserted a man who will face Ruud and Mensik in the coming days.
