Bianca Andreescu reveals what she immediately ‘screamed’ after injuring her ankle at the Canadian Open.

Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from the Canadian Open after injuring herself in the first round.

Andreescu, who has suffered with a long list of injuries since her landmark US Open title win in 2019, defeated former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in the Canadian Open first round.

However, the Canadian star was incredibly unlucky. On one of her match points, she severely injured her ankle.

Andreescu looked to be in serious discomfort, and Krejcikova rushed to comfort her on the other side of the court.

Remarkably, the 25-year-old managed to close out a 6-3 6-4 victory. However, she has been forced to withdraw from the next round in Canada; a match where she would have faced Mirra Andreeva.

Why does this keep happening to me?’
Speaking to reporters after withdrawing from the tournament, Andreeva spoke about her thoughts immediately after injuring her ankle against Krejcikova. The Canadian confirmed she had torn some ligaments in her ankle.

Andreescu said: “All I could think about is, honestly like why? Like why again?

“I think I even screamed out ‘why does this keep happening to me?’

“So yeah, just a bunch of emotions. I was super overwhelmed obviously playing in front of home crowd… winning the match, right?

“Like it was match point for me and it was just crazy. It was crazy. I started laughing at one point because honestly at this point it’s laughable. Like this is, for me it’s crazy. It’s crazy.

“I’m trying to stay positive but it’s getting really tough. It’s getting really tough.”
