Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy were once one of the sporting world’s most famous couples, however, their relationship came to an unceremonious end.
Rory McIlroy’s ex-girlfriend, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, has gushed over her NBA legend husband David Lee on social media. Just ahead of the Northern Irish superstar’s Masters triumph on Sunday, former Australian Open champion Wozniacki took to social media to announce that she and her partner are expecting a third child.
However, sharing a post of an impending move, as the family gets ready to welcome another member, Wozniacki, 34, posted two Instagram stories of the ex-Golden State Warriors star, 41, moving boxes, the second captioned with the comment: “The movers have gotten a lot hotter over the years”. The snap was even followed by a cheeky winking face emoji, a possible thinly veiled jab at her golfing hero ex-partner, with the duo sharing a complicated history.
McIlroy and Wozniacki were together between 2011 and 2013. However, McIlroy ended the relationship after claiming he was not ready for marriage, despite the couple announcing their engagement beforehand.
While the 35-year-old has been the toast of the sporting world since sealing his career grand slam at Augusta, Wozniacki appeared to be one fan who wasn’t throwing her support behind McIlroy.
Prior to the tournament the Danish star couldn’t resist taking a dig by opting to back another player in an interview with ESPN. Wozniacki, who attended the Masters with Lee, said: “We pick one that we think has a big chance of winning, and that was [Ludvig] Aberg.”
While McIlroy eclipsed Aberg, the former World No.1 also seemed to take another pot shot at her ex on the Friday of the event, after McIlroy initially struggled with a round of 72 on the opening day. “Watching someone who is so good at their craft I think has always been very inspiring,” she said.

McIlroy allegedly blindsided Wozniacki by calling time on their relationship via a three-minute phone call. Wedding invitations had even been sent out after a New Year’s Eve proposal in Sydney, which the US Open finalist had revealed on social media.
A statement by McIlroy, in light of his decision, at the time said: “There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.
“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”
Wozniacki has admitted to being stunned at the way in which the break-up was handled. She previously said: ‘I was shocked. I thought at least I would get a face-to-face or something, but there was nothing. It was a phone call, and I did not hear from him again. It kind of just ended.”
McIlroy has since claimed that it was a “mutual” decision. The golfing icon met Erica Stoll shortly after, and they have been married since 2017, although were preparing to get divorced last year before eventually deciding against splitting up. The pair have a four-year-old daughter, Poppy.
Wozniacki met Lee in 2017 and she married the former NBA champion in 2019. They have two children, James and Olivia.
