Trinity Rodman’s Boyfriend Has Six-Word Message Amid New Relationship.
Life has been good for American soccer star Trinity Rodman lately. Her new boyfriend, tennis star Ben Shelton, seems to be soaking in the good vibes as well.
On Tuesday, Rodman got her first call up to the United States Women’s National Team since she starred at the 2024 Olympic Games. She recently got back on the field for NWSL team Washington Spirit following a devastating back injury last season.
Off the field, the “hard launch” of her relationship with 22-year-old Shelton on social media drew massive approval from the community of professional athletes across the tennis and soccer worlds.
Shelton’s response to their second public Instagram post together on Thursday left no doubt about his feelings toward the gold medal-winner.
Rodman posted a selfie of them together that showed her gazing into his eyes with her lips pursed.
Although his face was covered with a green hat, she tagged Shelton in the post and wrote a caption letting her more than 500,000 Instagram followers know she had “dibs” on the 2023 U.S. Open and 2025 Australian Open semifinalist.
Rodman received supportive comments from a long list of notable followers that included soccer teammate Alyssa Thompson, WNBA player Aaliyah Edwards, women’s tennis star Sloane Stephens and “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper.
But nobody got more likes on their comments than Shelton, who said, “Whoever that is he won fs.”
Rodman, 22, first went public with Shelton on March 17, when he posted a photo with her in a six-image slideshow on his Instagram account. Under the post, she commented, “Shooters shoot I guess.”
If one thing is certain about Rodman, she is a shooter. In each of her four seasons in the NWSL, she has finished in the top 10 in total shots, peaking at 4.14 per 90 minutes in the 2024 season. Last year, she complimented her eight goals for the Spirit with three goals in six matches at the Olympics with Team USA.
It appears her willingness to shoot is paying off outside the lines as well, where she has found a relationship with a fellow athlete who can match her confidence.
