AMANDA ANISIMOVA: The American WTA player who is now being tipped as the ‘favourite’ to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals

The Wimbledon seeds have continued to fall at Wimbledon, shocking tennis fans across the globe.

A record-breaking 23 seeds exited the tournament in the first round across the men’s and women’s singles tournaments, which was labelled as ‘amazing by Tim Henman.

Across the women’s draw, 14 seeds have now been knocked out of Wimbledon after three days of action, including the likes of Coco Gauff, Qinwen Zheng and last year’s finalist, Jasmine Paolini.

Despite Gauff’s shock exit to Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska, another American hope has emerged as a potential contender following the exodus of seeds from the main draw.

Amanda Anisimova is labelled the ‘favourite’ to make the Wimbledon semi-finals

Amanda Anisimova, whose tennis idols growing up were Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, has enjoyed an impressive 2025 season so far after reaching the Queen’s Club Championships final and winning the Qatar Open.

The American, ranked 12th in the world, has been tipped as the ‘favourite’ to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon by journalist Matt Roberts.

Roberts noted that Anisimova seemed on the ‘edge’ during her victory over Renata Zarazua, perhaps due to an awareness of an opportunity opening up in the draw.

Speaking on The Tennis Podcast, Roberts said: “I felt like Anisimova was a little bit on the edge today in terms of her frustration levels I think maybe she’s aware of the draw she’s got here.

“I said right when the draw was made she’s got a good draw and it has opened up even more.
