Aryna Sabalenka has suffered another Grand Slam final defeat, losing to Coco Gauff at the French Open.
Sabalenka said she was ‘too emotional’ in the French Open final, where she was defeated 7-6(7-5), 2-6, 4-6 by Gauff.
Gauff was aware of Sabalenka’s anger on the other side of the court, but she remained focused to win her first title at Roland Garros.
The WTA numbers one and two battled it out for two hours and 38 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier, where Gauff clinched her second Grand Slam title.
Sabalenka meanwhile was also searching for her maiden French Open success, and a fourth career Grand Slam title.

But the Belarusian star fell just short, and now has three wins and three losses from her six Grand Slam finals.
Visibly upset after the match, she has since composed herself and has shared a message with her followers on social media.
Along with footage of her tournament, she posted on Instagram: “Tough loss today but proud of how I competed in Roland Garros this year. Hungrier than ever…”

Sabalenka was clearly disappointed with her display in the final against Gauff, but she can be very proud of her efforts in Paris.
She reached a clay court Grand Slam final for the first time in her career, having previously only ever reached that stage on hard courts.
The Belarusian also defeated a handful of star names en route to the final, which included a semi-final win over Iga Swiatek.
Swiatek has dominated the surface in recent years, winning three successive titles at Roland Garros before her stunning run was ended this year.
But most of the praise must be directed towards Gauff, who lost one of those trophy matches in Paris to Swiatek.
She has now tasted success at the iconic event, and significantly has now won both of her Grand Slam finals against Sabalenka.
