Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy were once engaged and committed to a lifetime together, but six months after the golfer’s proposal, it was all off.
The tennis star and Rory confirmed their relationship soon after his split from Holly Sweeney.
Rory and Holly had begun dating when he was only 16 and she was 14, just after he became the youngest-ever winner of the West of Ireland Championship and the Irish Close Championship.
However, after they called it quits, Rory and tennis star Wozniacki reportedly met at a boxing match in Germany after they were seated next to one another.
The Rise and The Fall
The couple were together for three years before Rory got down on one knee and popped the question on New Year’s Eve in 2013.
Friends and family had already been invited to the wedding, but, in an infamously bad ending, things came to a screeching halt less than six months after the proposal.
At the time, Rory suggested the split was mutual, but it was later alleged that he broke up with Caroline during a three-minute phone call.
Speaking about the break up, Wozniacki said: ‘Obviously you’re not prepared for something like this, and it came as a bit of a shock.’

Since then, barbs have been traded in the media between the pair with Rory alluding to his relationship with Caroline after getting engaged to wife Erica Stoll.
Speaking of his engagement to the tennis ace, Rory said: ‘I thought at the time that being with someone that was in a similar position to you was the obvious answer.
