Oxford University student Emma Watson was reportedly “heartbroken” after she was snubbed by JK Rowling.
The Hollywood actress is well known for her iconic role as Hermione Granger in all eight of the wizarding world’s films.
After turning her attention to studies, she opted to study a Master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford in September 2023.
It was announced in February that Ms Watson had switched to a DPhil, which is Oxford’s version of a PhD.
Before that, Ms Watson had attended the Dragon School as well as the Headington School, where she studied for her GCSEs and A-levels.
Her relationship with Harry Potter creator JK Rowling has deteriorated in the years since the films, though, due to their differing views.
Ms Rowling has moved on and is working on a new HBO Harry Potter series, which was confirmed back in April 2023.
Ms Watson’s iconic role of Hermione has already been cast with Arabella Stanton set to play the famed witch.
Yet according to a report in The Daily Mail, the actress and her co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, were not informed about the show by Ms Rowling.
The report read: “Now, despite their two-decade connection with the franchise, I can reveal that the trio have been ‘kept in the dark’ about the new TV project.
“So much so that they weren’t even informed that a remake was in the works.”
It was added that the trio were left “heartbroken” because of this, with other new stars being involved in the project instead.
An insider close to JK Rowling was reported as saying: “It’s heartbreaking for the three of them.
“Their childhoods were devoted to creating Harry Potter, and it held such a special place in all their lives.”
