The top 10 of the ATP Rankings will be American heavy when it is updated again as Ben Shelton has become the latest player to reach the milestone.
The 22-year-old started the week at No 12 in the rankings, but he brushed Jiri Lehecka aside in the quarter-final of the Boss Open to climb two places in the Live Rankings.
The American has enjoyed an excellent couple of years as he started the 2022 season at No 573, but finished the year at No 96.
The following campaign Shelton reached the quarter-final of the Australian Open and the semi-final of the US Open while he also won his maiden title at the Japan Open to surge into the top 20.
He peaked at No 13 in 2024 as he won the US Men’s Clay Court Championships and reached the last four of the Italian Open.
The 2025 season started with a run to the semi-final of the Australian Open while he also finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Bavarian Open in Munich.
And he will again meet Zverev in Germany as the world No 3 will be his opponent in the semi-final in Stuttgart, but irrespective of the outcome of the match, he will be ranked No 10 come Monday.
When told by Tennis Channel about his achievement, Shelton replied: “I’m going to go look and see with my own eyes before I believe it. I have to see it first.
“If that is true, that is very cool. A big milestone in tennis. I guess Stuttgart is the place for Americans to break into the top 10 because you all saw Frances Tiafoe do it here a couple of years ago when he won that title.
“I am just thinking about this week, I want to keep going this week and want to be playing on Sunday.”
Fritz currently sits at No 5 in the Live Rankings, but he could potentially move back up to a career-high No 4 if he reaches the final of the Boss Open while Paul – who is inactive this week – is at No 8.
It is the first time since 2006 that three Americans are in the top 10 with Andre Agassi, James Blake and Andy Roddick the trio to achieve the milestone nearly two decades ago.
It will also be the first time that more than half of the players in the top 10 were born in the 2000s with Shelton (2002) joining Jannik Sinner (2001), Carlos Alcaraz (2003), Jack Draper (2001), Lorenzo Musetti (2002) and Holger Rune (2003) on the list.
