Jessica Pegula has arrived in Germany to defend her title at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open. The tournament will take place from Jun. 16 to Jun. 22, 2025, on the outdoor grass courts of the Rot-Weiss Tennis Club in Berlin. Last year, the American won the title by defeating Anna Kalinskaya in the final.
Jessica Arrives at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open Ahead of Title Defense
Leading up to the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, Pegula competed in the clay court season, participating in tournaments such as the Charleston Open, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, the Madrid Open, the Italian Open, the Internationaux de Strasbourg, and the French Open.
At the clay-court Major, the World No. 3 defeated Anca Todoni, Ann Li, and Markéta Vondroušová before suffering a surprising defeat to wild card Loïs Boisson in the fourth round.
Following her loss to Boisson, during the post-match press conference, Pegula expressed her frustration, saying that she is not fond of two-week-long tournaments like those in Madrid and Rome that are scheduled around a Grand Slam.
“I’m not a fan of two-week tournaments. I think it makes everything super really long. Grand Slams are already really long, and so now to be two weeks in Madrid, two weeks Rome, and then two weeks here is really tough. But that’s the way it is now. And of course it’s always better when you are winning a lot of matches because the days and the weeks go by much faster,” Pegula said.
After taking some time at home to recuperate, Pegula traveled to Germany for the Berlin Tennis Open, where she will defend her title. In 2024, she won the title by defeating the likes of Donna Vekić, Kateřina Siniaková, Coco Gauff, and ultimately Kalinskaya in the final to secure her fifth career WTA Tour singles title.

Who Will Jessica Pegula Face in Her Opening Match at Berlin Tennis Open 2025?
Pegula is seeded third at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, and she is set to begin her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She will face either wild card Naomi Osaka or Liudmila Samsonova in her opening match.
Pegula and Osaka have met twice on the WTA Tour, with each player claiming victory once. Their most recent encounter took place in the second round of the 2021 Italian Open, where the American triumphed with a scoreline of 7-6(2), 6-2.
On the other hand, Pegula has faced Samsonova five times on the WTA Tour, winning four of those matchups. Their most recent clash was in the second round of the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championships, where the World No. 3 secured a dominant win with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-4.
In addition to her singles competition, Pegula will also participate in the doubles event at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open. She has teamed up with compatriot Ashlyn Krueger, and the American duo is set to take on the pair of Daria Kasatkina and Donna Vekić in the first round.
The winners of this doubles match will advance to face either the top-seeded team of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini or the wild card duo of Marta Kostyuk and Eva Lys in the quarterfinals.
