One particularly amusing discussion unfolded when they shared their biggest ‘pet peeves’ from time spent in Europe—whether in hotels, restaurants, or airports. Querrey kicked things off, citing the half-glass showers in hotel bathrooms that left water all over the floor.
Johnson criticized the narrow elevators, noting they barely fit two people. Isner took issue with the overly runny scrambled eggs in Europe, a complaint Sock echoed. Sock also called out airports for revealing the gate numbers at the last minute—an observation Isner agreed with.
World No. 3 Pegula likely related to those concerns, sharing her own experience in the comments. The American humorously criticized the fact that she can’t keep her hotel room cool while away in Europe.
“The room key for electricity, (they never want to give you another key) then if housekeeping comes they take it out so you come back and it’s 80 degrees in the room,” she wrote.
Pegula also took issue with the size of the pillows in the hotel room while playfully highlighting the scarcity of ice there. The 31-year-old shared that guests must physically go downstairs to request the air conditioning be unlocked when the hotel locks it.
“When they lock the AC and you gotta go down and force them to unlock it so it’ll go below 75f,” she commented.
Fritz chimed in and raised complaints about the tournaments’ narrow doorways, writing:
“Half-sized doorways at all the tournament sites that u can barely walk thru holding your bag.”
Fellow players, including Reilly Opelka and Victoria Azarenka, also highlighted their concerns. The American reflected on the European airports for making passengers stand in crowded buses, while the Belarusian complained about the showers at tennis venues.
Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz Faced Early Exits at the Italian Open
Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz were unable to hit their stride at the recently concluded Italian Open. Both players were seeded in the tournament, and while Pegula suffered a third-round exit, Fritz exited the event in his opener.
Pegula started her campaign with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win over compatriot Ashlyn Krueger in the second round. However, the American couldn’t build on that dominant start, falling to Belgium’s Elise Mertens 5-7, 1-6 in the third round.
Fourth seed Fritz, on the other hand, faced a shocking 6-7 (7), 6-7 (7) loss to compatriot Marcos Giron in the second round.
Pegula will next compete at the Internationaux de Strasbourg, where she will aim for her third title of the season after wins at the ATX Open and the Charleston Open. Fritz, meanwhile, will aim for his first of the season at the Geneva Open.
