EXCLUSIVE: Victoria Beckham Is Launching Makeup Brushes Inspired by Calligraphy.

It’s a rare sunny day in London, and Victoria Beckham tells me over Zoom that the weather “feels like it’s going in the right direction.” You could say the same about her eponymous beauty line, Victoria Beckham Beauty—a consumer favorite despite only being a few years old, with its beautiful tortoiseshell-inspired packaging and creamy formulas. At the ELLE office, the Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer, made in collaboration with Augustinus Bader, and the Future Lash Mascara are two products that our editors reach for over and over again.

“I like to create what I desire,” Beckham says, and next on her wish list is an expansion into a new category: tools. “I’ve been obsessed with brushes for as long as I’ve been obsessed with makeup,” she says. The result is a collection of nine sleek options, inspired by the artistry of calligraphy brushes. The brushes come in a dark patterned wood, with ergonomic bumps and holds that make them look sinuous and sexy (while also functional—they’re perfectly shaped to fit between the fingertips). And the brush fibers? Soft as clouds.

Like everything else in the line, Beckham designed the latest offerings for herself, but she hopes you’ll love them, too. “I’ve collected brushes over the years, and always ended up with too many. I looked at my favorites and focused on how to improve each one,” she says. Rather than follow a formulaic approach, Beckham created custom designs, like several clever double-ended brushes. “You can create an entire smoky eye just using one brush,” she suggests.

The fan brush is another favorite of hers, which she favors for applying bronzer. With the blonde tips at the bristles, I joke and ask her if it’s reminiscent of her husband David’s hair from the ’90s. “Well, it’s not David’s hair, but I do have little natural blonde highlights at the front of my hair, so maybe that’s the unconscious reason,” she demurs. But ultimately, “I’ve considered everything and obsessed over every detail, so that my customer doesn’t have to.” As the Spice Girls once sang, “We will take you where you gotta go.” Mark your calendar for April 2, when the brushes will be available for sale.
