Dame Lydia Ko closing in on world No 1 Nelly Korda in women’s golf rankings.

Dame Lydia Ko is a step closer to unseating American Nelly Korda atop the world rankings.

Despite sitting out the latest LPGA Tour event – Blue Bay LPGA – the 27-year-old has improved to No 2 in the official women’s golf rankings on the back of her win at the Women’s Championship in Singapore at the start of the month.

It’s a familiar spot for the Kiwi, who has spent 44 weeks ranked second since 2006. Only Korda (98) and Inbee Park (79) have spent longer there.

Korda has owned the top spot for almost a year, increasing her total time as the world No 1 to 89 weeks since 2006.

Ko, who has made an excellent start to the new season, has spent 125 weeks as the No 1 over the same span.
