Taylor Fritz’s level has dropped a bit in recent weeks, after the American ace had played really brilliant tennis in the latter part of 2024 and early 2025. The world number 4 came into the beginning of this season with great confidence, as he had reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open and the final at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in the second half of 2024.
His certainties cracked when he was defeated by French veteran Gael Monfils at the 2025 Australian Open, a premature elimination he certainly did not expect in the first Major of the new season.
Fritz struggled to play his best tennis in the following weeks as well, until he suffered an injury that prevented him from playing in the prestigious Acapulco ATP 500 this week. The American star had already arrived in Mexico when he announced his forfeit, a double mockery that certifies his negative period after the progress of recent months.
Despite a small physical problem, the world number 4 is expected to regularly participate in the Indian Wells Masters 1000, a tournament that has a particular value for him who grew up in those areas and who won there in 2022 (defeating a legend like Rafael Nadal in the final).
Taylor is in his ‘prime’ and hopes that his career at the highest level will be very long still.
In a long interview with ‘Sports Illustrated’, the American star was asked if he will play for another 10 or 15 years: “That’d be huge. I don’t know how likely that is, but, yeah, I’ll do this as long as I can, long as I feel like I’m good.”
He also added: “I just think I’m doing everything a little bit better, with a little bit more confidence. I think mentally, I’m much, much stronger.
I don’t know if that’s the best way to describe it, but I feel like I’m working harder and maybe not having as much fun, so that I can do what’s the most enjoyable thing and the most fun thing for me—which is winning and playing those big matches.”
