New details have emerged about Emma Raducanu’s stalker as it has been revealed that the same man came to the Briton’s hotel to hand her out a written letter.
On Tuesday, the 2021 US Open champion was left in tears and looking scared just two games into her Dubai match against Karolina Muchova.
After a conversation with the chair umpire, the 22-year-old revealed that she noticed a stalker sitting in the front rows.
The officials instantly reacted, throwing the person in question out of the stadium.
Now, The Telegraph reveals that the day before the incident, a man came to the hotel with a written letter for Raducanu.
The situation itself left the former world No. 10 worried and she instantly alerted the WTA and the on-site security.
Also, it is understood that the man in question isn’t a UK national.
Raducanu was grateful for the reaction that was made after the incident
After the stalker was escorted out of the stadium, the WTA later banned the man from attending any tournaments.
Also, the Briton was extremely grateful to Muchova, who comforted her when she stopped the match to explain why she was so distressed.
“Thank you for the messages of support. Difficult experience yesterday but I’ll be okay and proud of how I came back and competed despite what happened at the start of the match,” Raducanu wrote in a message posted on her Instagram Story.
“Thank you to Karolína for being a great sport and best of luck to her for the rest of the tournament.”
Meanwhile, the Dubai organizers fully supported the WTA’s decision to ban the individual from attending the tournament.
“We fully support the statement made earlier today by the WTA in regard to an incident involving Emma Raducanu on February 17,” the Dubai event organizers said.
“The tournament security team worked in collaboration with the WTA security team to proactively identify and immediately eject the individual in question from the stadium during Emma’s second-round match on Tuesday.”
